Annandale Man O’ Words Cask #144 and #528

I met the lovely guys from Annandale Distillery for the first time at Cinderella Whisky Fair 2019. I was so happy to find the guys at the fair this year as well! It is always fun to taste whiskies from new distilleries. Annandale Distillery was first established in 1836 and then reborn in 2014.

I tried all the whiskies they brought to Cinderella, both unpeated and peated bourbon and sherry matured whiskies. This year, as well as last year, the unpeated first-fill bourbon matured became my favorite.

Man O’ Words Vintage 2014 #144, bottle 19/263, 61,5 ABV

Vanilla on the nose. Marshmallows. Mint and eucalyptus. Light and fresh. A bit sharp on the palate. Still very green – and cold. I get the dryness from green grapes and a mix of herbs. Some vanilla. Lots of lemon juice. The finish is dry with a hint of nuts.

My score: nose 21 / taste 20 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 83

Man O’ Words Vintage 2015 #528, bottle 220/265, 59,5 ABV

Green notes on the nose. Green grapes, green apples, pears. Very rich! After a while is becomes warmer and I get fudge and red, baked apples. Mmm…rich and fruity on the palate. Something candylike together with the sweetness from the red, baked apples. The finish is warm and smooth – and fruity.

My score: nose 23 / taste 23 / finish 22 / balance 23 = 91

Thanks, Annandale Distillery! I simply love cask #528! It’s amazing!
