Arran 16 YO

The Ladies’ Share had our own super tasting right before Summer. The hostess arranged a blind tasting for us. Those are always the best ones 🙂

The first whisky in the line-up turned out to be Arran 16 YO from Arran Distillery on the Isle of Arran. Arran 16 YO has been matured in a mix of bourbon (70 percent) and sherry (30 percent) casks. Arran Distillery is quite young, it was established in 1995, and the 16 YO was their oldest whisky when it was released in 2013. This is a limited release of 9000 bottles. It is bottled at 46 ABV.

The Lady who owns this bottle got the last one in Norway, I believe! Which means it is not available anymore.

Rich on the nose. Apricot and fudge at first. Also figs and dates. Then lemon and lime juice with a hint of juniper. It actually reminded us a bit about gin! The palate is cold at first. Then it becomes warm with different spices and licorice. The finish is also somewhat cold. I get eucalyptus and lime zest. And rose pepper.

My score: nose 21 / taste 21 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 84
