Arran 2000 14 YO The Whisky Exchange

Time for another single cask from Arran Distillery today. The distillery is today the only working distillery on Isle of Arran. Arran Distillery was established in 1995, so it is quite a young distillery! This is what they say about the island:

Arran has soaring hills and rugged coasts, rich farmland and dense forests, all concentrated into a compact parcel floating in the Firth of Clyde between the Ayrshire coast and the Kintyre peninsula. It’s known as ‘Scotland in miniature’, as it shares some of the characteristics of the Highlands and Lowlands, the mainland and the Western Isles.

Todays whisky is a single cask for The Whisky Exchange. It was distilled 15 December 2000, matured in bourbon cask #2000/1106 and then bottled 7 August 2015 at 55,5 ABV into 197 bottles. It is 14 YO.

Oaky and sweet on the nose. Rich caramel and baked apples. Ginger and the sweetness from white pepper. A hint of tabacco. Oaky and sweet on the palate as well. Very spicy, nutty and oily. Ginger, nutmeg and dry fudge. Licorice. The finish is oaky and nutty. Ginger and white pepper. Quite dry and it lingers.

My score: nose 22 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 87

Thanks, Thea!
