Norway has its first independent bottler! The name is Single Malt Dreams.
I have had the pleasure of tasting their very first bottling. It is from Ben Nevis Distillery. I do not have a lot of experience when it comes to whiskies from Ben Nevis, but I have shared a couple of tasting notes a few years back: Ben Nevis 10 YO and Ben Nevis 1992 14 YO Signatory Vintage.
The whisky is a Ben Nevis distilled in November 1995, matured in a bourbon hogshead #962, bottled at cask strength 47,9 ABV in August 2021. It is available in Norway at NOK 2499.
Summery fresh and fruity notes at the nose. It is really complex. I get pineapple, ginger, grass, hay, farm, agriculture. There are leaves on the ground in the woods, earthy notes. Wow! What a taste! Rich and complex on the palate. Very smooth and delicate. Ginger, lime juice, kiwi, pineapple and grape fruit. It gives a tingling mouthfeel. Sugar cyrup. A lingering finish with juicy, fruity notes from pineapple, peach and mango. Some dryness like from peanut shell in the very end.
My score: nose 23 / taste 23 / finish 23 / balance 23 = 92
Thanks, Stephen and Katharina, for making this tasting possible!
