Benriach Peated Cask Strength Batch 2

Benriach Distillery is located in the region Speyside in Scotland. They produce both peated and unpeated whiskies. My last review was of Benriach The Original Ten which is an unpeated whisky. Today it is time for a peated one!

Benriach Peated Cask Strength Batch 2 has a peat level of 45 ppm in the barley. It has been matured in both bourbon and Oloroso casks. Batch 2 consists of 24-26 casks distilled in 2006, 2007 and 2010. It was bottled in 2018 at 60 ABV. This is a small batch production for Benriach.

Vanilla on the nose at first. Then some fruitiness from crispy pears. Warehouse and ash. The peat is not very prominent for me. Sweet and smooth on the palate. Vanilla, caramel, lemon caramel and smoke. The finish is lingering with warmth, spices, ashy dryness. Lemon and eucalyptus.

My score: nose 21 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 85
