Last Thursday I told you about The Ladies’ Share tasting called ‘Back to Islay‘. Today I will give you my tasting notes on the first whisky in the line-up; Bowmore hand-filled.
We stayed in Bowmore when we visited Islay, but we only had time for a short visit at Bowmore Distillery.
This whisky was distilled 2003-03-04 and then matured for 13 years in a first-fill bourbon barrel before bottled at 56,1 ABV in 2016. You can only buy this one at the distillery.
There is a lot happening on the nose. At first there is alcohol, sweet saline, iodine and a salty beach. Then there is lime and some peat. And at last there is the smell of forest and flowers. Fresh on the palate with lemon and eucalyptus. A bit metallic. The peat is quite gentle. I get some salt and thyme as well. The finish i earthy and salty. There is some sourness generating saliva, like when you eat grapefruit.
My score: nose 20 / taste 21 / finish 20 / balance 21 = 82
