Box Distillery has released their fourth (and last) whisky in the series Early Days Collection. It is called The Messenger. The other whiskies in the series are named The Pioneer, The Challenger and The Explorer.
You will find all the details about the whisky if you click on the link. Briefly I mention a few details: 76 percent of the whisky was matured in 130 litres bourbon casks, and the rest in 100 litres Oloroso sherry casks. 7 percent of the whisky is peated. It is bottled at 48,4 ABV. This is a young whisky, only 3 YO (or 3,94 YO as you will find in the specifics).
The outturn was 8169 bottles. The whisky is available in Sweden, but not in Norway (yet?).
I have worked for one week at Box Distillery. It was great fun! You can read about it here (it is in Norwegian, but I guess Google Translate can be of help).
Malt and nutshell at first on the nose. Dust and orange zest. Then it becomes more fruity and ‘fat’, like butter. Rich and warm mouthfeel. Vanilla and malt. Fruity, a lot of peaches. Salt and white pepper. Clean and oily. The finish is suprisingly long. The nuttiness and the butter from the nose is here as well. This was a really nice whisky.
My score: nose 21 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 86
