Box The Archipelago Baltic Sea 2017

The last three years Box Distillery has released a bottling only available for those who attends Cinderella Whisky Fair. It is called The Archipelago (press the link to read all the details about it).

The Archipelago 2017 Baltic Sea 2017 is 100 percent peated. It was distilled 2011–02–09 till 2011–05–25. Then it was matured for over 3,5 years in bourbon casks and the finished for two years in new American oak casks. The whisky was watered down from 56,46 ABV to 55,4 ABV before bottling at 2017–02–06. The outturn was 1016 bottles.

Sweet and smoky on the nose. Vanilla, canned pears, peaches, nutmeg and fresh licorice. Smooth and rich, but it turns more towards oaky after tasting it. The taste…mmm…warm on the palate. Nutty and peaty. I get vanilla and salted caramel. Spicy. Nutmeg, white pepper and cardamom. Quite dry and nutty on the finish. It leaves the palate with an oily layer.

My score: nose 21 / taste 21 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 84

– Tone
