Box Distillery (now High Coast Distillery) has since 2014 produced a special bottling for the participants at the yearly festival at the distillery. Here is what they say about Box The Festival 2017:
When Festival 2017 was created, our distillery manager Roger Melander chose a different path. Festival visitors were invited into the creation. At a special test during the festival, the participants got to vote and the result led to one of the most appreciated festival releases ever.
The Festival 2017 is an unpeated whisky matured in 90 liter new American oak for 5 years. It was bottled at 54,2 ABV. I have tasted from bottle 360 of 1000.
Woody and “closed” on the nose at first. After a while it is warm and rich. I get dark chocolate with orange. It smells a bit like old books. So spicy on the palate. You will find your whole shelf with spices here. White pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon and black pepper. Quite rich, actually, and oaky. I get some dark chocolate as well. The finish turns out to be quite sweet in addition to the oakiness and spicyness. Sugary.
My score: nose 21 / taste 21 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 84
Thanks, Thomas!
