Braunstein E:8 is, as all the whiskies starting with an E:, a single cask bottling from the Danish distillery. It has been matured in a bourbon cask and bottled at 60 ABV. I tasted E:8 at the whisky fair in Gothenburg this year (read about it here), and then again at home.
I have tasted many whiskies from Braunstein Distillery at festivals, but I have only reviewed one whisky from the distillery; a private bottling (read about it here).
Rich vanilla on the nose. Oaky and dusty. It smells a bit like a library. The cask influence is quite strong. I get some aceton after a while. And then the special sweetness from Coca Cola. Mmm…rich vanilla and fudge on the palate. Fruity and oaky. I get fresh orange lemonade at first, and then Coca Cola. The finish is sweet and rich. Vanilla and lemon. Coca Cola with a taste of lemon. Oak here as well.
My score: nose 20 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 84
By the way: I am not a fan of Coca Cola or any other soda! But I have had Coca Cola, of course, and sometimes I can find that special sweetness in whiskies.
