The whisky world is filled with kind people. When Claus read my reviews of PC5 and PC6 and noticed I had not tasted PC7, he offered me a taste! If you do not already follow his blog, The Malt Desk, I would definitely recommend it.
Today I can dive into Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PC7 Sin An Doigh Ileach. It was distilled 2001-07-18 and bottled in 2008 at 61 ABV. It is 8 YO. The release was 24000 bottles.
Very gentle and closed on the nose at first. Dust and a lot of spices. I get cardamom, white pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg. Some rubber. Orange peel. The alcohol and the rubber is more obvious on the nose after tasting it. Smooth and sweet on the palate. Sugar, fudge and salt. And smoke! Lots of smoke and ashes. The mouth feel is big, but not complex. The finish is “wet”. I know it might seem strange but I cannot find a better way to describe it. Sugar. The taste disappears too quickly and my palate is left with a wet ashes. This is the PC I have enjoyed the least. Still a decent whisky though.
My score: nose 20 / taste 22 / finish 20 / balance 20 = 82
