Bunnahabhain 1990-2015 Wemyss Samphire Beach

Bunnahabhain Distillery produces both peated and unpeated whiskies. Today I am tasting an unpeated one released by the independent bottler Wemyss Malts. Wemyss has both single cask whiskies and blended whiskies in their portfolio. This is what they say about their single casks releases:

Each cask that is chosen for bottling is representative of the best characteristics of its regional origins and only the best casks are chosen by our Nosing Panel, which is chaired by Charlie Maclean. This strict selection process limits the number of casks which are of the exceptional quality required to be elevated into this range.

Todays whisky is a Bunnahabhain called Samphire Beach. It is distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2015 at cask strength 53,1 ABV. It is not available in Norway.

Light on the nose. It smells like Summer! It reminds me of fields of flowers and freshly cut grass. A bit medicinal notes as well. Iodine and citrus. Lemon is prominent on the palate. Then comes vanilla, eucalyptus and mint. Quite fresh. On the finish it turns bitter like hops, with a hint of metallic notes.

My score: nose 22 / taste 22 / finish 20 / balance 21 = 85

Thanks, Bennie!
