Bunnahabhain 2007 8 YO Moiné Hand-filled

When The Ladies’ Share visited Islay last Autumn, I got to see Bunnahabhain Distillery for the first time! At the distillery our guide herself had bottled Bunnahabhain 2007 8 YO Moiné that same morning. She thought we might be interested in buying those cute, little bottles. And of course we were 🙂

Moiné is a peated whisky from Bunnahabhain. This one was distilled in 2007 and matured in first-fill Oloroso sherry butt #3657. It was bottled 16 September 2016 at cask strength 60,2 ABV.

Sharp on the nose. Alcohol, oak, raisins, and the oil you use for your terrace. Bonfire smoke. The palate has the same tastes; oak, oil and it feels quite rough. I get pepper, turpentine and glue. The finish is completely different though. I get sugar syrup and orange peel. It is bitter and oaky.

My score: nose 19 / taste 19 / finish 19 / balance 20 = 77
