Cooley 2000 12 YO A. D. Rattray

I have had this bottle for a couple of years now and it is almost empty, unfortunately. Well, it is time to share my thoughts about this one. I did say a few words about when The Ladies’ Share had our super tasting right before Summer, see here.

Todays whisky is a release from the independent bottler A. D. Rattray. It is an Irish whisky from Cooley Distillery. It was distilled 2000-01-28, then matured in bourbon cask #377 before bottled 2012-03-19 into 222 bottles at 59,3 ABV. This bottle is bought in USA and therefore the size is 750 ml.

Very fresh on the nose. Lemon and eucalyptus. Slightly woody with some spices. Nutmeg and cloves. Then comes a lovely sweetness with vanilla and fudge. Very rich and smooth on the palate. Mmm… Lovely mouthfeel. Oily, fudge, white pepper, lemon and a bit oaky. The freshness from the nose reappears on the finish. The oiliness is still there with a warm chili sense.

My score: nose 22 / taste 23 / finish 23 / balance 22 = 90
