Craigellachie 2003 12 YO Dram Good Whisky No. 1

Well, today I am tasting something unique. This is the very first whisky bottled for Dram Good Whisky which is a collaboration of whisky ‘nerds’ bottling casks together. The bottler is Ceder & Tjeder.

The Dram Good Whisky No. 1 is a Craigellachie distilled 10 June 2003 and bottled 11 June 2015 – which makes it 12 YO. It was matured in a refill bourbon hogshead #124/2003 which gave 299 bottles. It is bottled at cask strength 59,9 ABV.

The nose is quite malty and fruity. Actually it smells a bit like new make. This was a rough one! Banana and lemon. Fresh baked bread and yeast. Hmmm… I was a bit surprised. The colour is very light. Maybe this was a well used bourbon cask? I miss the typical vanilla notes from a bourbon cask. Let us see what it tastes like. Still the sweetness from banana and malt. Quite rough on the palate at first. The finish is sort of sweet and dry and warm. Lemon, licorice, black pepper and oak. The black pepper sticks on the palate.

My score: nose 18 / taste 20 / finish 20 / balance 20 = 78

Thanks, Roland!
