Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye

A Canadian friend gave me samples of some Canadian whiskies. I have already shared my thoughts on the Canadian Club Classic 12 YO and Wiser’s 18 YO.

Today it is time to try the Crown Royal Nothern Harvest Rye, 45 ABV. I am comparing it to Glann ar Mor Only Rye, 46 ABV (review will follow in a few days).

This is what Crown Royal says about the whisky:

Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye combines the distinctive flavor of Canadian rye grain with the unmistakable smoothness of Crown Royal for a truly exceptional Canadian whisky.

Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye is the first Canadian Whisky to earn World Whisky of the Year in Jim Murray’s Annual Whisky Bible 2016.

Perfume at once. Then lime, mint and eucalyptus. Quite fresh with lemon balm. Brown sugar and some synthetic candy. Ginger beer and lime juice on the palate. A hint of perfume. Smooth. A spicy finish. I find ginger, nutmeg and pepper. The finish is dry and the taste disappears quickly. I was positively surprised by this one! Nice!

My score: nose 20 / taste 21 / finish 20 / balance 21 = 82

Thanks, Crystal!
