I have already mentioned a couple of Ladies tasting Springbank Green 13 YO and Talisker Skye. Actually we started our tasting with the Norwegian with Eiktyrne Sokin og Eikin Sauternes Finish – accompanied by coffee and buns 🙂 And then we tasted it ‘neat’ 😉
Well, todays whisky is a 4 YO whisky. At first is was matured in a mix of American virgin oak, sherry bloodtub and calvados casks. And then given a finish in Sauternes casks. Read a bit more about the releases from Det Norske Brenneri on Whisky Saga.
The outturn was 503 bottles at 500 ml, bottled at ABV 48,3. Available in Norway at NOK 595.
Very sweet and spicy on the nose. A woodiness mixed with green bananas. Cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and white pepper. A hint of turpentine. Warm and rich on the palate. Vanilla and caramel, actually burnt caramel. Salt, eucalyptus and a hint of licorice. And there is an intense taste of an essence of some kind. Oaky on the finish. It is also spicy. White pepper, nutmeg and broth.
My score: nose 21 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 85
