Eiktyrne Sørlandet whiskyfestival 2017

I think I have tasted almost all the whiskies released from Det Norske Brenneri. You can read my tasting notes on some of them: Audny Series 3 here and Eiktyrne Sokin og Eikin here and Eiktyrne Rin og Rinnande here.

In 2017 Sørlandet whiskyfestival was held for the second time. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to attend any of the festivals yet. I have actually chosen to attend Oslo ginfestival  (read about it here) which is the same weekend as Sørlandet whiskyfestival every year…

Well, I got a sample of the special bottling of Eiktyrne bottled for the festival in 2017 – the very first festival bottling. You can read all the details about it on Whisky Saga. The outturn was 62 bottles at 48,3 ABV. It was only made avaiable to those who attended the festival.

Warm and rich on the nose. Oak, dates, figs and Christmas cake. Lots of spices. Nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon and black pepper. It reminds me of nosing directly of an open cask! Mmm… Rich sherry notes on the palate. Dates, figs and Coca Cola! Brown sugar. Surprisingly smooth and at the same time spicy. Black pepper and cardamom. The finish is mostly brown sugar and white pepper. Soft and smooth.

My score: nose 21 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 85
