Glann ar Mor Only Rye

I got samples of different rye whiskies from two of my friends. A few weeks back I chose to taste them and compare them even though they were quite different. I have already shared my tasting notes on the Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye. Today it is time for the Glann ar Mor Only Rye.

The Glann ar Mor distillery is located in France:

It is right in the heart of “Tregor”, at the far end of the “Presqu’ile Sauvage” (“The Wild Peninsula” in French), facing the ocean in the middle of a wild and authentic countryscape, that Celtic Whisky Compagnie has chosen to build its distillery Glann ar Mor (Litteraly “By the Sea” in Breton language).

Glann ar Mor Only Rye is, as the name tells us, a whisky made from malted rye insted of barley. It was bottled in 2015 at 46 ABV.

Dry, earthy, potato peel and wet leaves on the nose. Malt and bread. Quite heavy with a malty sweetness. Earth and banana on the palate at first. Actually the perfume is more present here than on the Canadian Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye. Pepper, lime and sand. The finish is dry and perfumed. Wow, such a heavy rye. Very different from the Canadian one.

My score: nose 18 / taste 19 / finish 18 / balance 19 = 74

Thanks, Roland!
