Last week I shared my tasting notes on a Bowmore from Svenska Eldvatten. During the same meeting The Ladies’ Share also enjoyed a Single Cask from GlenDronach distillery.
This is a 12 YO whisky distilled 11 March 2003 and bottled September 2015 for Norsk whiskyforbund (Federation of Norwegian Whisky Societies). The whisky has been matured in a first fill bourbon barrel with a four year finish in a Barolo hogshead (read more about it on Whisky Saga).
Really rich and complex on the nose. It starts off with a strange sweetness. One of the Ladies (not me!) described it as “fresh sweat”! Like straight-after-workout-sweat. Then we got cocoa and dark chocolate before the smell turned more sweet with Marshmallows and milk chocolate. Very interesting! The taste was also rich with dark chocolate and cocoa. A bit sharp on the palate though. Still dark chocolate on the finish with chilli. A bit metallic.
My score: nose 22 / taste 21 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 85
I am happy to still have some left in my bottle!
