A new release in the Experimental series from Glenfiddich Distillery! Glenfiddich Winter Storm is the name. Previously they have released Project XX (read my tasting notes here) and IPA Experiment (read my tasting notes here) in the Experimental series.
Winter Storm is a 21 YO whisky with a finish in Canadian Icewine casks for at least three months, bottled at 43 ABV. Here is what they say about it:
For his latest experiment, Malt Master Brian Kinsman found his inspiration in the freezing vineyards of the renowned Peller Estates winery near Niagara, Canada. When he returned to the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, his memories of the extreme conditions and the unique production process of the intensely sweet Icewine led him to experiment with several French oak Icewine casks. What he found fascinated him.
The whisky will probably be available in Norway, but I do not know when.
Nutty and buttery on the nose at first. After a while it turns more fresh and cold with lemon and eucalyptus. Cold and dusty. Very sweet on the palate. I get sugar syrup mostly. Again, after a while it becomes more fresh and cold with lemon and mint. Licorice. The finish is smooth. A mix of sugar syrup, peanut shells and licorice.
My score: nose 21 / taste 21 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 84
