Not long ago I shared my tasting notes on one of the latest whiskies from Glenmorangie distillery, Milsean. Today I am trying an old Glenmorangie.
A friend gave me a sample of this whisky. It is Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX Private Collection. This is a 12 YO whisky having spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks before transferred into Spanish PX casks for its final two years of maturation. It is bottled at 46 ABV. Unfortunately it is not available in Norway.
Figs and dates on the nose like a true sherry matured whisky. Smooth and elegant with a hint of oak. Quite sweet on the palate. Dates and fudge. Cardamom. Burnt sugar in the end. The finish is dry with a lot of oak, sugar and spices. Even so the whisky leaves the palate feeling oily.
My score: nose 22 / taste 21 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 85
