Last weekend I tasted a brand new Highland Park at Oslo Whisky Festival 2016. It is a single cask bottled for 13th Oslo whiskyfestival Chris Maile. Chris Maile is the man behind Oslo, Trondheim and Tromsø Whisky Festivals.
This is a 13 YO whisky from cask #6352 which is a European Sherry Hogshead. The whisky was distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2016 into 306 bottles at 57,5 ABV. It is not available in Norway yet.
Warm and fresh on the nose. Figs and eucalyptus. Sweet and fresh at the same time, like caramel ice cream with mint leafs. It reminds a bit of the smell you get when you open a box of confectionery chocolate. Some orange as well. Mmm… Rich and warm on the palate. Dark chocolate. Spicy with black pepper, chilli and cardamom. A lingering finish that really fills the whole palate with a nice, warm feeling. This is a more fresh Highland Park than their core range, but still it has the nice warmth from the sherry maturation. A really nice Highland Park.
My score: nose 22 / taste 24 / finish 23 / balance 23 = 92
