Highland Park Dark Origins

Highland Park, such a lovely distillery to be at. You can read about the visit to the distillery on Whisky Saga.

The distillery is not just a lovely place to be, they also make good whiskies. As many of you already know I have a soft spot for their bourbon matured whiskies. ICE Edition being my favorite and Freya following in a strong second place. The Ladies Share were lucky to have a tasting with senior brand ambassador Martin Markvardsen in November 2015.

Well, enough talk. Now it is time for todays whisky. I have tasted Highland Park Dark Origins many times now and finally I took my time to do proper tasting notes. This is a no age statement release from Highland Park. It is made from approximately 80 percent first fill sherry matured whisky. The whisky is 11-15 yo. It is bottled at 46,8 ABV.

Highland Park Dark Origins is available in Norway at NOK 699.

Quite sweet on the nose with dried apricots and figs. A lot of spices as well. It reminds me of gingerbread dough. Rich on the palate. Sweet and spicy. Dried fruits, like apricots, dates and figs. Licorice and dark chocolate. The finish in spicy, warm and lingering. Black pepper and licorice. To me the smoke is almost not detecable either on the nose or on the palate. I guess it is all the first fill sherry casks hiding it.

My score: nose 21 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 85
