Highland Park Hjärta

Highland Park Hjärta was released back in 2009. I had not tasted it until this Autumn. How could I have missed this lovely whisky?

Highland Park Distillery is located on Orkney, up North in Scotland. It was really nice to visit the distillery earlier this year. You can read about the trip on Whisky Saga.

The Ladies’ Share were lucky enough to have a tasting with brand ambassador Martin Markvardsen from Highland Park in November 2015. One of the whiskies in the line-up was Hjärta. You can read Marte’s summary of the tasting here.

Hjärta is 12 YO and bottled at 58,1 ABV. There was a total of 3924 bottles.

A sweet caramel, toffee and malt scent at first. Vanilla and white pepper. I know this sounds very sweet but it is not too sweet. Fruity as well, apricots. A gentle and delicate smoke, oak and cardamom. Ah, so rich and complex on the palate! Sweet and spicy is what first comes to my mind. Caramel, pepper, apricots, nuts and smoke. Quite fresh with eucalyptus and some mint as well. The finish is very warm and rich. Peppery, spicy and nutty. Caramel and chili. Lingering on the palate.

My score: nose 23 / taste 23 / finish 22 / balance 23 = 91
