Highland Park Single Cask Vintersolsnu

Lately Highland Park Distillery has released a number of single cask whiskies for different countries. Last year they released a single cask for Chris Maile (read my review here). Todays whisky is named Vintersolsnu (Solstice) and is a celebration of solstice 21 December.

Highland Park Vintersolsnu was distilled 2001, matured in a European oak sherry butt #651 for 16 years and then bottled into 588 bottles in 2017 at 58,8 ABV. It was released 15 December 2017 in Norway at NOK 1 420,30, but it is no longer available.

Oaky on the nose. Nail polish remover and almond essence. A hint of licorice. Rich and sweet on the palate. The oak is dominating. Sharp and burnt caramel. There is not much more happening. The finish is dry. There is something giving me water in my mouth, but I cannot describe it. Despite the high ABV it disappears rather quickly.

My score: nose 20 / taste 20 / finish 20 / balance 20 = 80
