Jura 1984 Vintage

Only a few bottles of this one made their way to Norway. We are talking about Jura 1984 Vintage. The bartender served me this one blind at Underbar at Aker brygge in Oslo earlier this year. I love blind tasting!

Jura distillery is located on the island of Jura in Scotland – the neighbour to the island Islay hosting eight distilleries known for making peated whiskies.

Todays whisky was distilled 23 April 1984 and bottled October 2014 at 44 ABV. This is what the distillery says:

Thirty years in the making, this exquisite limited edition single malt is all about taking things slow, aged in American white oak, Amoroso and Apostoles Oloroso sherry butts casks. Some say patience is rewarded hints of honey and vanilla, while others enjoy ripe pineapple, bitter chocolate and morello cherries – after all, who says there’s only one version of the truth?

Wow! Such a lovely nose! I get sherry, oak, figs, dades, oranges, raisins…you name it. Really warm and rich. Confect chocolate and marzipan after a while. I could really nose this for a long time. Still sherry notes on the palate. Rich and smooth. The sweetness from Coca Cola. And at the same a bit dry. The finish was smooth. A perfect mix of dryness, sugar and sourness. This was a nice and balanced whisky.

My score: nose 24 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 89
