Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1999

Still working my way through The Ladies’ Share’s tasting ‘Back to Islay‘. The time has come for Lagavulin Distillery. At Lagavulin we did a whisky and chocolate pairing tasting.

Lagavulin does not have a wide core range. The Distillers Edition is one of them though. This is what they say about it:

Lagavulin Distillery staff tasting notes:
The second maturation in Pedro Ximinez brings a great fruity backbone to this Lagavulin, which balances greatly with the big bold classic smoke you would expect from Islay’s greatest distillery.

Todays edition was distilled in 1999 and bottled in 2015, which makes it approximately 16 YO. As the regular 16 YO, this one is also bottled at 43 ABV.

It is not available in Norway.

Warm and peaty on the nose. Smooth. Sweet licorice. Tobacco and ash trey. Smooth and nice and warm om the palate. Caramel and salt. The peat is gentle, but definitely present. The finish is both dry and oily. I get ash and lemon.

My score: nose 21 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 85
