Laphroaig 10 YO Cask Strength batch #007

Laphroaig distillery is located on Islay in Scotland. They have a regular 10 YO bottled at 40 ABV. An addition they have released a cask strength 10 YO, one batch each year since 2009.

Laphroaig 10 YO Cask Strength batch #007 was bottled January 2015 at 56,3 ABV. I have tasted an earlier batch of the 10 YO cask strength and really loved it. Batch #007 is not available in Norway (or anywhere else – except auctions maybe). Laphroaig is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year so I guess every whisky released from the distillery this year is even more popular.

Driftwood, ripe plums, iodine, smoke from a camp fire, peat and quite earthy on the nose. Some sourness mixed with the earthy feeling. It changed and became more fresh after a while. I found pineapple and eucalyptus. Rich and warm on the palate. Pepper, chili, plums and warm apples. Kind of earthy feeling on the palate as well as the nose. The smoke appeared when I swallowed. Vanilla gave it some sweetness. The finish is soft and earthy. Warm. Soft and fresh licorice. I am struggling to describe this whisky. It is kind of a gentle Laphroaig. And very earthy.

My score: nose 21 / taste 23 / finish 22 / balance 22 = 88
