Laphroaig 1998 15 YO Old Malt Cask

I have enjoyed some drams of the whisky in this lovely little bottle during the weekend. The content is a whisky from Laphroig Distillery released by the independent bottler Hunter Laing. It is a part of their Old Malt Cask series.

The whisky was distilled in April 1998, then matured in a refill hogshead #9932 until bottled in August 2013, which makes it 15 YO. The whiskies in the Old Malt Cask series is (almost) always bottled at 50 ABV.

Light and fresh on the nose. The smoke is hiding in the background. Eucalyptus and thyme. Vanilla and a hint of fudge. Some orange zest. It is very delicate on the nose. Mmm… Peaty, soft and spicy on the palate! Salt, peach, fudge, peanut shell, nutmeg and lots of pepper. The finish is nutty and dry. It leaves the palate with a layer of ash.

My score: nose 23 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 88
