Today I am tasting a Longmorn from the independent bottler Hunter Laing and their series The First Editions, first released in 2010. The First Editions are single barrel expressions always released at natural cask strength.
Longmorn Distillery is located in the region Speyside in Scotland. Todays whisky was distilled in 1998, matured in a refill barrel #HL 17324 for 21 years before bottled at 56,3 ABV into 186 bottles in 2019. From the color, nose and taste I guess it must have been a bourbon barrel.
Light, rich and delicate on the nose. Crispy pears and lemon juice. Pear soda. Imagine opening a can of paint and stirring around. Ginger and ginger beer. Cardamom. So smooth and rich on the palate. Heaven! Vanilla, pears and spices. It lingers with white pepper and ginger. A warm finish.
My score: nose 23 / taste 24 / finish 22 / balance 23 = 92
Thanks, Pär!
