Lot No. 40 Rye

Earlier this year I have shared some reviews of Canadian whiskys I got from a friend:

Today I am tasting the last one. This is the Lot No. 40 Rye whisky from Corby Spirit and Wine. It was bottled in 2012 and is named 2012 Edition. The ABV is 43. This is what they say about the whisky:

Lot No. 40 is expertly distilled in small batches using only the finest locally sourced ingredients. By distilling in a single copper pot still, the result is a whisky that starts off earthy and woody tasting and then becomes full bodied and complex with a velvety vanilla oak finish.

Wood and perfume on the nose at first, like a Cognac. Resin and leaves. It is really very woody. Burnt caramel, spices and orange peel. Perfume on the palate. It reminds me of Cognac on the taste as well. Lime zest and wood. Some pepper. The finish is very watery and has a taste of burnt caramel and pepper.

My score: nose 18 / taste 17 / finish 16 / balance 18 = 69

Thanks, Crystal!
