A friend gave me two samples of whiskies from Mackmyra Distillery in Sweden. Last Thursday I shared my tasting notes on Mackmyra Moment Glöd. Today I am tasting the second sample I received from a friend: Mackmyra Moment Källa.
This is what the distillery says about Mackmyra Moment Källa:
Our tenth release in the Moment series is an elegant Swedish malt whisky with delicious cask notes and flavors of berries, butterscotch and Swedish oak. The character comes from a larger part of our older, larger casks and Swedish oak.
We have returned to the source and rolled out some of the first casks that were filled in our distillery at Mackmyra Bruk.
Mackmyra Moment is a series of whiskies from our most exclusive casks, handpicked by Master Blender Angela D’Orazio. You can find the Moment series in selected stores and taxfree shops.
The whisky is a vatting of casks from 2003 and 2006. It is bottled at 53,4 ABV. The outturn was 1065 bottles.
Very oaky on the nose. Sharp. At first it is like putting your nose into a whisky barrel. Then comes ginger, garlic and green olives. Quite interesting to be able to describe these smells, actually. Spicy and dry on the palate. Oaky and nutty, and very sharp. The finish disappears quickly, but leaves the palate with the oil from nuts.
My score: nose 16 / taste 16 / finish 16 / balance 16 = 64
Thanks, Thomas!
