Mortlach 1994 20 YO Cadenhead Small Batch

The Ladies’ Share had our own super tasting right before Summer.

Todays whisky was part of the line-up. This is a Mortlach from the independent bottler Cadenhead. Cadenhead’s is the oldest independent bottler in Scotland, established in 1824. Today they have several shops in the UK and Europe.

This Mortland was distilled in 1994, matured in bourbon hogsheads and the bottled January 2015, which makes it 20 YO. The outturn was 768 bottles at 53,4 ABV.

As far as I can see, there is only one bottle of this left in Norway at NOK 1600.

The nose is sour in a fresh way! It reminds us of the small, green lozenges which where popular when we were young. Eucalyptus and vanilla. One of the Ladies comes to think of a special kind of glue we used in school 😉 Rich and warm on the palate. Chili, vanilla and licorice root. The finish has a lot of pepper in different kinds; white, black, rose and so on. And the taste of orange bitter.

My score: nose 22 / taste 23 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 88
