Oban 2001 Distillers Edition

I was lucky to spend an evening at one of the Ladies in the club and could taste through some of her whiskies! It is exciting to taste something I do not have at home.

The first whisky that evening was Oban 2001 Distillers Edition. Oban Distillery has a narrow core range. It actually consists of only four bottlings, Distillers Edition being one of them.

Todays whisky was distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2016, which makes it approximately 15 YO. It has been given a Montilla Fino Sherry Cask Finish, and it is bottled at 43 ABV.

Woody on the nose. Dust and oak. It is quite cold. I get eucalyptus like in the Norwegian lozenge Dent. Rosemary. And then comes some fruitiness. Very smooth on the palate. Caramel, melon and cardamom. The finish is quite dry. Nutty and oaky with a touch of cinnamon. A nicely balanced dram.

My score: nose 21 / taste 21 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 85
