Royal Brackla 2006 11 YO Selected Malts

I have previously shared my tasting notes on the first whisky from the Swedish independent bottler Selected Malts (read here). Today it is time to enjoy their second single cask.

The whisky is a Royal Brackla distilled 4 December 2006 and bottled 14 March 2018 which makes it 11 YO. It spent its first ten years in a hogshead and was then was given a finish in two 128 litre quarter casks which had held Oloroso sherry for six months. The outturn was 397 bottles at cask strength 55,8 ABV.

It is available in Sweden at SEK 738.

Sherry notes on the nose. Oak and burnt caramel. Lots of berries after a while. Especially blackcurrant and raspberries. Rich sherry notes on the palate. Figs and dates. Smooth. Chocolate caramel. Then it changes to berries. The finish is oaky and I get a hint of peat. Is that correct? Maybe it is just the oak giving me that sensation.

My score: nose 20 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 84

Thanks, Patrik!
