I visited Smögen Distillery this Summer and had a quiet time by myself tasting a couple of whiskies.
The first one is Smögen Single Cask Edition No. 4. This has been matured in a fresh American white oak bourbon barrel #18/2012, distilled 2012-03-28 and bottled 2017-05-06 at 61,3 ABV. The outturn was 362 bottles. I have written about the second single cask edition here.
Light on the nose. The smoke is prominent here. Fresh at first with lemon and lime. Then I actually get kiwi! I cannot remember ever getting that before! After a while it turns more sweet with malt and Marshmallows. The taste is rich and smooth. Smoke here as well. Fresh and sweet at the same time. Complex! I get vanilla, eucalyptus and milk chocolate. Cold. The finish is long. Vanilla, white pepper and cacao. Fresh at first, then a little dry in the end.
My score: nose 22 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 87
