Smögen Distillery bottled their first whisky, Smögen Primör, in 2013 when the whisky was three years old. The same casks used for Primör were filled again and here is the result: Smögen Primör Revisited!
The whisky was distilled the Summer of 2013 and bottled October 2019, which makes it 6 YO. It was matured in second fill French oak quarter casks #46-53/2013. The outturn was 1616 bottles at 68,2 ABV. The malted barley is heavily peated as always from Smögen Distillery.
Warm and fruity on the nose. Baked apples, warm apple pie and oranges. A bit earthy and a hint of peat after a while. Spicy with black pepper, cardamom and orange zest. Very complex. Rich and fruity on the palate. The peat is more apparent than on the nose. Still baked apples mixed with juicy peaches. I would never have guessed the very high ABV on this one. The finish is woody and a bit sugary. Ash and dust. The sweetness from baked apples and brown sugar.
My score: nose 22 / taste 22 / finish 22 / balance 22 = 88
