Today it is time to share my tasting notes on another whisky from the new independent bottler Beacon Spirits. It is time for Speyside Finest. Earlier I have written about their Caol Ila and Ledaig.
Todays whisky was distilled in 1975 and bottled in 2016 at 46,9 ABV. Only 54 bottles were released and it is already sold out from Beacon Spirits.
Since the distillery is not mentioned on the bottle, we do not know for sure which distillery it is. Often Glenfarclas is called Speyside’s Finest when it is an independent bottling, but I do not know if this is the case for this one.
Light and fruity on the nose. Quite fresh with apples and pears. The fruitiness changes to a more tropical style after a while with pineapple and mango. Some eucalyptus as well and a hint of nail polish in the end. Light, fruity and salty on the palate. The tropical fruits are most prominent. I get pineapple, mange and dried papaya. Fruity on the finish as well. Some salt, eucalyptus and oaky notes. Quite warm and nutty in the very end. This does not remind me of a Glenfarclas. If that is the case, the sherry cask has not given the whisky a lot of color and flavour.
My score: nose 21 / palate 22 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 86
