Springbank Distillery is located in the region Campbeltown in Scotland. They make three different malt whiskies; Springbank (medium peated), Hazelburn (unpeated) and Longrow (heavily peated).
The core range of Springbank includes 10 YO, 12 YO, 15 YO, 18 YO and 21 YO. Springbank 12 YO is always bottled at Cask Strength. This one, batch 17 from 2018, was matured in 70 percent sherry casks and 30 percent bourbon casks. It is bottled at 56,2 ABV.
A new batch will be available in Norway in November 2020.
A sour, acid-like smoke meets the nose at first. Grassy notes, actually. Fresh and citrusy. Sweet and peaty on the palate. Lemon juice, lime zest and a hint of wood. Honey melon and green herbs. The finish has a hint of licorice along with black pepper and green herbs.
