Springbank Distillery is located in the region Campbeltown in Scotland. Their core range consists of the 10, 12, 15, 18 and 21 YO. The 14 YO is a limited release.
Springbank 14 YO is matured in fresh and refill bourbon casks and bottled at cask strength 55,8 ABV into 9000 bottles. It was distilled November 2002 and bottled August 2017. I find Springbank in general to be nice whiskies, even at 46 ABV, and was therefore very excited to try one bottled at cask strength! I have tasted it at a couple of festivals, but now I am enjoying a sample from one of the Ladies at home.
It is sold out in Norway now, but was available at NOK 1 239,90.
Rich and complex on the nose. This is the first time I immediately get some peat on the nose on a Springbank! Interesting. Vanilla and fudge. Baked apples, pears and dried apricots. Mmmm… Really rich and peaty on the palate. There is both vanilla and fudge, but not too sweet. It reminds me of an apple cake with cinnamon. Sweet and spicy on the finish. Ginger ale and lemon juice – and peat.
My score: nose 23 / taste 23 / finish 23 / balance 23 = 92
