Springbank 1996 17 YO Hart Brothers

Today I am tasting a 17 YO Springbank bottled by the independent bottler Hart Brothers.

The whisky was distilled October 1996, matured in a sherry hogshead, and bottled June 2014 at cask strength 51,5 ABV. Whisky from Hart Brothers is not available in Norway, but you can find some of their releases in Sweden.

Apricot, both fresh and dried, and pineapple on the nose at first. Quite fresh with some mint and eucalyptus as well. Cardamom. Actually I find beer on the nose! Some sourness, I cannot describe it in a better way. The palate is rich! Apricot and chilli. Wow, really spicy this one! The finish is mostly chilli with a hint of other spices as well. Oily and nutty, a nutty oiliness. It leaves the palate with a burning sensation before it turns dry.

My score: nose 23 / taste 23 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 89

Thanks, Roland!
