Springbank Green 13 YO

A couple of Ladies tasted a few whiskies a couple of weeks ago 😉 I wrote down our tasting notes, and here is the first one.

I shared my tasting notes on Longrow CV a few weeks back; a peated whisky from Springbank Distillery. Today it is time for a less peated whisky: Springbank Green 13 YO. Here is what Springbank Distillery says about it:

The first is the 2015 version of our Springbank Green, following on from last year’s 12 year old, bourbon matured version. The new release is 13 years old, was again produced using organic barley and has been fully matured in sherry casks. It has been bottled at 46% and there are 9,000 bottles available for worldwide distribution.

Available in Norway at NOK 1165.

Warm and young on the nose. Grass and hay in a barn. An ashtray with some water. Yeast. An empty metallic can which has held champignons. Eucalyptus and other herbs. Soft on the palate at first. Then it turns quite sharp. The alcohol is quite prominent. A bitter taste of orange zest. Salty and watery. A bitter aftertaste, like tonic! Quite short.

My score: nose 20 / taste 20 / finish 20 / balance 20 = 80
