Starward Ginger Beer Cask Whisky #5

Starward Distillery is located in Melbourne in Australia. David Vitale started the distillery in 2007. I remember tasting Starward whisky maybe about ten years ago. Then it was still quite young, but I remember it as promising!

Today I am tasting Starward Ginger Beer Whisky #5 bottled at 48 ABV. The outturn was 1 400 bottles. It is part of their bottling serie New World Projects.

Light and fizzy on the nose. I get ginger and nutmeg. I get some rich, fruity notes as well, from overripe melon and pineapple. After nosing it for a while, it reminds me of ginger beer! Perhaps I am influenced by the name? Rich and fruity on the palate at first. Then some maltiness and bread, and still the fruitiness. Melon, mango and black pepper. Quite sweet. It lingers with fruity notes from melon and juicy, red apples. Not dry at all!

My score: nose 21 / taste 22 / finish 22 / balance 21 = 86

Thanks for the sample, Pär!
