Stauning Distillery is located on the West Coast of Denmark. Their whiskies named Oak Oak are “double wood” releases where the whiskies are matured in two different kind of casks. First they have been matured in first-fill Bourbon casks and then American Virgin Oak Casks.
Stauning 2012 Oak Oak is a 4 YO whisky distilled 2012 and bottled February 2017. The outturn was 765 bottles at 47,8 ABV.
Oak, oak, oak on the nose! Hah! I guess I know why the chose that name 🙂 It smells like a walk in the woods. Pine, juniper and dried leaves on the forrest floor. Woody and dry on the palate. Burnt caramel. The finish is warm and lingering. Brown sugar syrup and smooth.
My score: nose 18 / taste 19 / finish 19 / balance 20 = 76
Thanks, Thomas!
