Talisker Skye

Most of the Ladies in our club are huge fans of Talisker 10 YO. It is one of my favourite whiskies available on the shelf at the state monopoly.

I bought Talisker Skye back in January when I was going to watch three English football matches in one day with some colleagues! I figured Talisker was a kind of whisky most of them would enjoy. After having had quite a few drams of it now, I finally came around to do some tasting notes a couple of weeks back when I tasted it again with one of the other Ladies.

Talisker Distillery is located on the isle of Skye. This is what they say about Talisker Skye:

The Isle of Skye is renowned for its rich, varied landscape – from its soft, serene shores to the dark, jagged peaks of the Cuillin mountains. Talisker Skye is the distillery’s ode to these appealing contrasts, with a smoky sweetness, maritime notes and a spicy edge.

This is a no age statement whisky bottled at 45,8 ABV – as all other distillery bottlings from Talisker. It is available in Norway at NOK 500.

It seems quite young one the nose. There is a sweetness from malt and overripe fruits, like banana, peach, pineapple and mango. There is something fresh as well from green apples. Sweet and soft on the palate. Salt, mild peat and fruit at first. There is something metallic. The smoke is a bit sour like from a beach with seaweed. The finish is salt and fruity. Peach and papaya. The sourness lingers with some fruitiness. Oaky and malty.

My score: nose 20 / taste 20 / finish 20 / balance 20 = 80

I prefer Talisker Storm and Talisker Dark Storm to Talisker Skye.
