Tasting Scapa, The Glenlivet and other good stuff with Stine

Stine in the middle, surrounded by The Ladies' Share

In January 2016 The Ladies’ Share had a visit from Stine Frey Thorud at Pernod Ricard. She introduced us to a wide selection of the whiskies Pernod Ricard carries. What made the tasting even more interesting was the combination of whisky and different kind of snack.

These were the whiskies we were happy to enjoy that evening:

  • Scapa 16 YO, 40 ABV
    • A very soft, smooth and gentle whisky.
    • My score: nose 21 / taste 21 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 84
  • Scapa Skiren, NAS, 40 ABV
    • This is the newest release from Scapa. It is available in Norway at NOK 599,90.
    • Chocolate and lemon cake on the nose – we like it! A bit sharp on the palate and the finish is quite short.
    • My score: nose 22 / taste 21 / finish 20 / balance 20 = 83
  • The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve, NAS, 40 ABV
    • It is available in Norway at NOK 469,50.
    • Fruity and woody on the nose. Spicy and citrusy on the palate. Spicy and warm on the finish. Unbalanced.
    • Really interesting to mix it with Comte cheese and figs.
    • My score: nose 22 / taste 21 / finish 20 / balance 20 = 83
  • The Glenlivet 12 YO, 40 ABV
    • My review from 2013 (in Norwegian).
    • It is available in Norway at NOK 469,50.
    • Orange on the nose. Citrus and perfume on the palate. Dry and light on the finish. It disappears quite quickly.
    • Lovely to combine it with dried peach.
    • My score: nose 20 / taste 20 / finish 19 / balance 20 = 79
  • Jameson 18 YO, 40 ABV
    • Perfume and toffe on the nose. Perfume on the palate. Watery finish.
    • Dark chocolate (70 %) made it soft and mellow.
    • My score: nose 19 / taste / 19 / finish 18 / balance 18 = 74
  • Ballantine’s 17 YO, 40 ABV
    • It is available in Norway at NOK 690.
    • Fruity, dusty and orange peel on the nose. Very fruity on the palate. A dry finish with a lot of pepper.
    • My score: nose 23 / taste 22 / finish 22 / balance 22 = 89

In the end Stine treated us with a little taste of The Glenlivet Guardians’ Chapter – which became our favorite of the evening!

Thanks, Stine!
