A brand new whisky from Teerenpeli Distillery in Finland! It was first available at Cinderella Whisky Fair 2016. I did not have time(!) to taste it at the fair, but I bought a sample to enjoy at home. Teerenpeli also brought two whiskies for the retail market; Rasi and Kahri. Reviews will follow in the coming weeks.
Well, back to AURA. It has been maturated 5 years in traditional Teerenpeli Porter casks. The Word AURA means a farming tool (plow). The outturn was 426 bottles and it was bottled at 43 ABV.
Very malty on the nose at first. A warm sweetness. Strange, but nice. I guess it is the Porter Casks giving it this nose. Bread, yeast, fudge and vanilla. A strange combination. After a while in the glass the vanilla and yeast dominates completely. It reminds me of Marshmallows. Salty bread on the palate. Milk and vanilla. Quite spicy. White pepper and cardamom. A salty and dry finish. I find this whisky very interesting!
My score: nose 21 / taste 21 / finish 20 / balance 21 = 83
