I did not have time to taste all the whiskies I wanted when I attended Cinderella Whisky Fair 2016. That is why I bought some samples to bring back home. Since there always seems to be a lot of whiskies and festivals and other stuff to write about, I have not had the time to enjoy all the samples yet.
Today we are going to Finland, to Teerenpeli Distillery. I have shared my tasting notes on their 10 YO and AURA earlier. This is what they say about their Karhi, bottled at 43 ABV:
KARHI has been maturated 5-7 years in bourbon casks and finished for one year in Madeira casks. The word KARHI means a farming tool that is used to soften the field. It is a sort of ÄES with bigger branches. KARHI is only available at duty free markets in autumn of 2015.
Rich and sweet on the nose. Very fruity. I find baked apples with prunes in the middle. I actually find a whole fruit basket with a mix of peaches, bananas, grapes, apples, pears and some tropical fruits as well. The fruit gives it sweetness on the nose without making the whisky sweet – if you know what I mean. I would never have guessed the correct age of this whisky! Oily and smooth on the palate. Did I mention oily? Yes, very oily. It is very fruity, more sweet than on the nose, almost like sugar. Warm and oily on the finish. And at the same time a bit dry and watery. It disappears quite quickly.
My score: nose 22 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 86
