Teerenpeli Savu

I have tasted many of the whiskies released from the Finnish distillery Teerenpeli. One of their latest bottlings is named Savu. It is bottled at 43 ABV. This is what they say about it:

SAVU is distilled from peated malt and matured in selected bourbon (80%) and Pedro Ximinez sherry (20%) casks. Those casks were selected in ambassador and fair tastings, where audience was chosen the best combination in blind. SAVU is on the market in autumn 2018.

A light and delicate peat meets the nose. Vanilla and lemon fudge. Quite fresh and green. Basil, thyme and eucalyptus. Peaty and salty on the palate. Still very green with the taste of fresh herbs. Vanilla, butter and salt. The peat is even more prominent on the finish. It is quite dry, but at the same time it leaves the palate with an oily layer. Lemon peel and mint.

I tasted the cask strength version of Savu at Cinderella Whisky Fair 2019. I must say the additional ABV adds lots of flavor and makes it more rich, but still the 43 ABV version is a very nice whisky!

My score: nose 22 / palate 22 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 86

Thanks, Jari!
